System Of A Down To Release Leaked Toxicity Outtakes (mtv.com/news)

Jun. 21st, 2002 | 09:44 pm
posted by: immorak in loud

System of a Down are complying with the system of supply and demand.

After unmixed Toxicity outtakes were leaked online last month (see "System Of A Down Frazzled Over Leaked Outtakes"), System of a Down realized the demand for their unreleased music and are preparing to properly supply it.

"We are gonna release some of them, mixed the way we would actually put them on an album," bassist Shavo Odadjian said backstage at Saturday's KROQ Weenie Roast (see "System, Papa Roach Rage On Weenie Roast Stage While Jack Osbourne Holds Court"). "But we're gonna do it in a way where we put some of those, some soundtrack songs that haven't been [widely] released, [etc.]"

The upcoming album, which does not yet have a title or release date, may also feature "Shame," System of a Down's collaboration with the Wu-Tang Clan for 2000's Loud Rocks compilation, according to drummer John Dolmayan, who hesitated to call it a "rarities" collection, because "we're gonna do something original with it."

Either way, the collection is noteworthy in that it wouldn't be in the works if the material had not been leaked...

LINKIN PARK's CHESTER BENNINGTON: New Stuff Has PANTERA-Esque Riffs - June 21, 2002

LINKIN PARK vocalist Chester Bennington recently spoke to Britain's Metal Hammer magazine about the songwriting process for the follow-up to the multi-million selling Hybrid Theory. Here's what he had to say:

"It's progressing well and I'm really happy with it. We have a lot of songs written and there are a lot of dope beats and cool loops going on. We've got some sick, sick heavy guitars. There's just some great music on there. The stuff I've worked on so far is really easy for me to sing over. It's really easy for me to come up with vocal melodies. And that's the key for me, the ability to come up with good melodies. The only real difference is the guitars are that little bit heavier.

"In my opinion there's some pretty PANTERA-esque guitar riffs, but at the same time it's not super heavy. It's really tastefully done. I think the beats are really awesome. On Hybrid Theory they're really cool, but the beats on this album are a lot more original and have a lot more character and really hit hard. The only way to describe the whole thing is that it's a little bit harder and a little bit softer at the same time. We feel a little bit more comfortable and a little bit more mature."

Did that last part make any logic?
It sounded like the new album is going to be like the last one... but not.

Toxic Remnants...

Jun. 21st, 2002 | 10:06 pm
posted by: witchmooon in loud

As a result of the recent leak of various outtakes from their latest album "Toxicity", System Of A Down are now planning to release the bulk of the aforementioned tracks in their proper form (fully tracked, mixed and mastered) later this year. The collection is expected to also feature songs the band have previously released on soundtracks and such amongst others. For the full story, check out the groups recent interview with MTV here.
KICK ASS!

Santos Mood Swings

Spineshank frontman Jonny Santos recently posted an update on the status of the groups forthcoming new album "Violent Mood Swings", which they are currently in pre-production on in Los Angeles, CA with producer Howard Benson (P.O.D., Sepultura) and engineer Mike Plotnikoff (Fear Factory, Factory 81). Santos had the following to say:
"We are still all very hard at work right now just trying to finish writing this record. It looks as if we might be taking about another 3 or 4 weeks before we start actually tracking. The delay came about due to the band feeling that some songs were just not strong enough to make the record and Spineshank will not put out a half assed record because the fans deserve better. Although the delay might disappoint some people, I assure you it will be worth the wait. The album will be entitled "Violent Mood Swings" and that is exactly what it is. We are hoping to be able to tour the UK shortly after release and are looking forward to seeing our fans after such a long time. Until then take care and keep fuckin kickin ass!!"

Rage From The Machine
