Missy Elliot Takes On Nirvana...

With the exception of a few innovators, most music is derivative. It used to be just about copying a sound, Creed - Pearl Jam, Soundgarden - Zeppelin, Zeppelin - Willie Dixon. Everybody - Robert Johnson. But ever since Puffy proved that all you need are ghostwriters and a sample, it's about copying "actual sounds" the latest bootleg remix to do just that is a Missy, Nirvana remix of Get Your Freak On and Smells Like Teen Spirit. There is already an official Superfreakon remix that will be available as b-side. And George Michael is getting in on the mix so to speak, a Get Your Freak On Faith remix is rumoured to be available on his next single.

Rob Zombie the man that was behind the horror/metal group White Zombie and now does his own thing took sometime out from speaking about his new album while we were in California, to do a little venting about the state of pop music today. Rob had this to say, "I was talking about this the other day because we were watching MTV and they were showing Enrique Iglesias and I was like how the f**k can these kids sing along to this shit? It's like Michael Bolton, it's like what my Mom listens to vacuum the floor. [Actually] My Mom doesn't even listen to music that wimpy."

"A Jesus complex may be a common pitfall for many rock stars,
but for P.O.D., Christianity itself demands the humility that saves
it from such overpowering ego trips". - NEW YORK TIMES, 11/2001

Who Bizkit Be
Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is expected to work with rapper DMX on two upcoming tracks, one being earmarked for a compilation album set for release through DMX's label Bloodline, while the other is being eyed for the Soundtrack to the forthcoming film "Undisputed". In other news, Durst recently commented on the status of the band and former guitarist Wes Borland stating:
"I hear on MTV News that Wes has a new band already, damn. We wish him all the luck in the world and hope he is finally happy. LIMP BIZKIT is still in the house and we feel stronger and more inspired than ever. I really believe this search for a new guitar player is gonna uncover something truly amazing. I hope youre as excited as we are. You learn in life to not dwell and to look at things as opportunities to excel instead of being set back. We havent let you down yet and have no ulterior motives. Remember, guitarists of all ages, all walks of life, boys and girls. its on!! I think you can tell we have a lot to say and a lot to release on this new album."

Letterman Is Alive
P.O.D. have been confirmed to perform on the "The Late Show With David Letterman" on December 27th.

No Writing On Stage
Cold are expected to take some time off after their current tour with Dope comes to an end, to concentrate on writing material for their next effort, which they most likely begin recording sometime early next year. A tentative late summer release through Flip/Geffen is being eyed.

Left To Indulge
The Left Rights are now eyeing a January release through Uppity Cracker for their forthcoming debut. The group is actually a side project of sorts for Mindless Self Indulgence, comprised of the music "too bizarre" to be included on their forthcoming new effort for Elektra, which is tentatively due out early next year as well. In related news, Mindless Self Indulgence will also be releasing a maxi-single for their track "2 Hookers And An 8 Ball" in January through Uppity Cracker.

Recording Coma
Amen are currently around 75% finished recording their upcoming new album with producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, Korn), and are hoping for an early 2002 release through I AM/Virgin. In other news, the band are still looking for a new guitarist to replace the slot recently vacated by Paul Fig, those interested should contact sonnymfmayo@yahoo.com for more info.
